Davos Switzerland

Davos is a municipality in the district of Prättigau/Davos in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland.

It is located on the Landwasser River, in the Swiss Alps, between the Plessur and Albula Range. At 1,560 metres it is the highest city in Europe.

Davos has a dual claim to fame as the host to the World Economic Forum, an annual meeting of global political and business elites, and the home of the largest ski resort in Switzerland, serving as the site of the annual Spengler Cup ice hockey tournament, hosted by the HC Davos local hockey team.

Jakobshorn (2590m) is one of the five skiing regions of the Davos Klosters Mountains,
Located between the Dishmatal and Sertigtal, it is served by a two-part cable car running from Davos Platz. Jakobshorn is also a favoured take-off point for hang-gliders and snowkiters.

Andeer Graubünden

Andeer is a municipality in the district of Hinterrhein in the Swisscanton of Graubünden. Neil and I hiked today on the Schams / Val Schons circuit in the valley. Beautiful day, it had snowed on the mountains last night.

Around 1820, roads were built over the Splügen Pass and the San Bernardino Pass. When the railroad tunnels through the Alps were completed near the end of the 19th century, they reduced traffic through the region. Since the opening of the San Bernardino road tunnel in 1967, Andeer has once again been on a major thoroughfare.

Strelapass - Graubunden

The Strelapass is a hiking trail that runs from Langwies to Davos.
The pass was often travelled by the Walsers, who colonised upper Schanfigg from Davos in the early 14th century. It was the main link this isolated part of the valley had with the outside world until the Schanfigger road was built in 1874.

Sapün

Vals Switzerland

Vals is a municipality in the district of Surselva in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Located in the Valsertal, it is known for its thermal baths (Therme Vals). It is the source of the Valser mineral water and Valserstein, a granite with many minerals in it.

The original inhabitants of Vals were exiles from canton Vallis in south-west Switzerland. They settled at the end of the valley because that was the only place that the local Romansch people would give them. They also brought with them the Valliser style of house, which uses more wood than stone and has triangular roofs.
