Sarawak Cultural Village Pantai Damai, Santubong

Sarawak Cultural Village consists of houses that represent major ethnics groups of Sarawak, namely Chinese, Malay, Bidayuh, Iban, Penan, Orang Ulu, and Melanau. The uniqueness of this village is the maintenance and "living museum" style of presentation by the workers. "Living museum" here means the workers inside the houses mimic the traditional way of living of different ethnics-cooking traditional food, light industries, games and song.
The Orang Ulu Longhouse provides an idea of how the Orang Ulu people live in Sarawak. The Orang Ulu, whose name means "upriver people"



The Melanau people harvest the sago palm, both for its starch, similar to tapioca, and for the sago grubs that were traditionally a source of protein. The women were stabbing them onto skewers and people were eating them raw..........no, I didnt.

Kuching Malaysia

Kuching is the capital of the East Malaysian state of Sarawak. Being the most populous city in the state, Kuching emerged as one of the most vibrant cities in the region and the largest city on the island of Borneo and the fourth largest city in Malaysia. Kuching has a tropical rainforest climate, moderately hot but very humid, it receives an average rainfall of 165 inches per year.

The Sarawak River is an important source of water and transportation for the inhabitants in southwestern Sarawak. It is also used in water-related sport activities such as the annual Sarawak Regatta which attract tourists from all over the world.

Astana is the official residence of the Governor of Sarawak, also called the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri. It is located along the bank of the Sarawak River. The Astana, which means "palace" in the local dialect, was constructed in 1870 for the newly married Charles Brooke, the second Rajah of Sarawak.
