Liechtenstein is two thirds mountains, situated in the middle of the European Alps known as the Oberland, or Upper Country. The other third is the Rhine River Valley in the western part of the Principality. The Furstensteig begins at the Vaduz Schloss and ends up high on the crest of the mountains below the Gafleispitze.

The Liechtenstein Alps run south-north form the foothills of the Rätikon Mountains. The Drei Schwestern (Three Sisters) mountains cradle the Underland or Lowland of Liechtenstein. The Eschnerberg, a series of seven hills with a height of 739 m lies in the Rhine valley in the north of Liechtenstein. Three valleys lie high up in the mountains, the Samina, Malbun and Lawenatal. The remote Lawenatal Valley is surrounded by the Schwarzhorn, Grauspitz and Falknis peaks.

Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein is the smallest German-speaking country in the world and the only alpine country to lie entirely within the Alps. It is also the only German-speaking country not to share a common frontier with Germany. It is a constitutional monarchy divided into 11 municipalities. Much of Liechtenstein's terrain is mountainous, making it a winter sports destination.

Balzers is a village and community located in southern Liechtenstein. As of the 2005 census, the community has a total population of 4,420.

The main part of the village is situated along the east bank of the Rhine.
